What lineage can demonstrate
A well-documented lineage provides context. Photographs, association records, certificates, interviews and dated first-hand accounts can show that a real teaching relationship existed and help preserve details that might otherwise be lost.
It can also help students understand why two Wing Chun families approach stance, forms or Chi Sau differently without assuming that difference alone makes one family superior.
What lineage cannot guarantee
A famous name does not automatically create skill. Every generation still has to train, understand, teach responsibly and correct mistakes. A lineage claim without evidence or visible teaching quality is only a claim.
Students should be able to ask respectful questions. A confident Sifu can explain the school's background without using lineage to prevent examination or to belittle other practitioners.
Preservation requires practice
Preserving Ving Tsun is not freezing it into museum language. It means keeping the principles, training methods and relationships between forms, drills and application coherent while teaching real people in the present day.
At the Rob Ley Academy, the practical standard remains structure before strength, calmness under pressure, respect in the Kwoon and a willingness to test understanding through training.
